A Taste of VACE! VACE is delighted to introduce the new Culinary Arts Academy. Taught by acclaimed local chef Luis Martinez in the Pavilion kitchen at the Wyndham Garden Ventura Pierpont Inn, these classes are ideal for home cooks No experience is necessary. Also new for Fall is our Medical Assistant Skills Workshop. It is scheduled for Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9 pm, taught by Debe Resler. This is a competency-based course for trained medical assistants and personnel interested in brushing up and enhancing their clinical skills. Proof of successful completion of a medical back office program or a transcript of previous training is required in order to enroll.
Also new are the Microsoft Office Review Classes! Want to kick up your Office skills? Attend hour-long sessions in our Microsoft Office Boot Camp class presented by Susan Vinson. Sessions begin on September 2 every Tuesday and Thursday from 4 pm to 5 pm. FREE for VACE students, grads, and staff members! Not a VACE student, grad, or staff member? Join us for this FREE series of classes! The sessions consist of lecture, practice, and slide shows on popular Office topics. Tuesdays are geared to beginners, while Thursday sessions cover more advanced topics. Look at the January calendar of topics and dates that outline the content for each session.

California's First Computer-based GED Testing Site!
Computer-based GED testing is here! On February 27, Ventura Adult and Continuing Education became the first GED test center in California to implement computer-based GED testing.
In response to the increased demand for computer-based testing resulting from the phasing out of the paper-based GED test, VACE has opened a second Pearson-VUE test center dedicated to GED testing.
Students are now able to go online (www.gedcomputer.com) to complete the GED registration process, pay for and schedule tests, which are taken in our Pearson-Vue test center.

VACE Awarded "Health Champion Award"
VACE was awarded the "Health Champion Award" given by the Ventura County Board of Supervisors. VACE was nominated for the award by the Partnership for a Healthy Ventura County's Healthy Living for Individuals 55+ Committee.
WIA Funding Awarded to VACE
Pending final approval by the California Department of Education, VACE has been re-awarded Workforce Investment ACT Title II Adult Education and Family Literacy Act funding. This funding is based on performance points earned by students in Adult Basic Education, Adult Secondary Education and English as a Second Language programs, and is instrumental in sustaining and enhancing these programs.
NCCT Phlebotomy Testing Center
Ventura Adult and Continuing Education provides Phlebotomy and Medical Assistant certification testing services through National Center for Competency Testing. If you need to take a test leading to certification, you can register and take the test at VACE, 5200 Valentine Road in Ventura. There is a $30 testing fee (waived for VACE students) as well as an exam fee.
Testing dates for 2014-2015 are to be announced. Call Leticia Murillo at 289-1744, ext. 1103, for further information. For specific details that you must include in your application package, go to the NCCT Applications website at http://www.ncctinc.com/documents/MMCI%20App%20Aug%2006.pdf.
Prometric and Pearson/VUETesting Center
Ventura Adult and Continuing Education provides testing services through Pearson/VUE and Prometric for such companies as Cisco, COMPTIA, and Microsoft, among others. If you need to take a test leading to licensure, certification and assessment programs offered by these leading testing services, you can register for the test you require at the web sites for either pearsonvue.com or prometric.com and take the test at VACE, 5200 Valentine Road in Ventura. Official Typing and Calculating Tests
Ventura Adult and Continuing Education offers certified typing and calculator testing. Please call 805-289-1744, ext. 1219 to schedule a testing appointment.
- Tests are scheduled on Tuesdays from 12 pm to 1 pm
- Tests are monitored by an instructor
- Maximum of 20 minutes to practice before actual test begins
- Typing: Four 5-minute timings will be given on a computer
- Typing: Applicant needs to type at least 35 words-per-minute with no more than five errors
- Calculator: One timing will be given on a calculator
- Calculator: Applicant needs to type at least 135 keystrokes-per-minute with 99% accuracy
- The cost is $10 (non-refundable)
- Picture identification is required
- When you pass the test, instructor will issue a certificate
- Keep the original certificate in a safe place and make copies for employers or to submit with application materials
- Test certificates are valid for one year from date of testing
